In your own space, write a promo, manifesto or primer for a beloved character, relationship or fandom.

I'm going to talk about the game 1000xRESIST!

This game's got:
  • Almost entirely female characters
  • None of whom are well-adjusted
  • Because the majority of characters are clones of the same girl in a future underground society
  • Which also means canon toxic clonecest yuri
  • It's also got themes of immigration, generational trauma, and rebellion against political corruption
  • Non-corporeal aliens are also there because they kinda wiped out everyone else
  • Soundtrack is so good and so atmospheric
  • Insane replay value because of worldbuilding and mysteries unraveled through non-linear storytelling and soooo much show-not-tell
  • The voice acting and writing are SO good
  • It is sometimes critiqued as a "walking sim" visual novel, but I actually really like that it has such little actual gameplay lol
  • Average playthrough time is about 11 hours which is a plus as someone who prefers shorter games
  • So many horrible pathetic women
  • Did I mention toxic clonecest yuri and SO many compelling fanon dynamics to read into

1000xRESIST is incredibly hard to explain and that is a big reason why you should play it.

You play as a clone in a future society entirely made up of other clones from the same immortal teenage girl. This immortal teenage girl, Iris, is a huge bitch (affectionate) with generational trauma, mommy issues, and internalized racism due to being the daughter of two 2019 Hong Kong protesters who fled to Canada. She also turned out to be strangely immune to a virus brought to Earth by non-corporeal memory-eating aliens, which prompted scientists to try cloning her to figure out how to replicate this immunity.

Clearly, something went wrong (or right?) because the only survivors a thousand years later are her and her extremely maladjusted society of clones. You play as one of these clones whose job in the war against the aliens is to learn about Iris, now known as the ALLMOTHER, by diving into her memories of the old world and trying not to completely lose your entire goddamn mind as the truth of your world very quickly unravels and chokes you half to death.

Something I really love about this game is how much is left up to interpretation while still having a strong center. The fandom is still gaining traction, but the current fandom has such amazing discussions over the tiniest "insignificant" lines and unseen scenes. It is really conducive to transformative work because of how much is left for us to fill in ourselves!

The devs are also really active in the fandom, but in a way I find to be very professional! They listen to feedback about bugs and accessibility, while very expertly toeing the line of answering story questions without ruining the fun of speculating on foggier corners. It's an approach I really appreciate during a weird era of people using random Tweets from cast or writers or some camera guy as Word Of God Canon Fact, and because so much of what makes 1000xRESIST so compelling is all the unanswered questions to drive yourself delightfully insane over.

I will warn that if you are prone to motion sickness from video games, some levels are going to be rough. I struggle with this very badly and straight up have to close my eyes in some areas or take dramamine while playing. But it is SO WORTH IT and there are playthroughs on Youtube that may be a good alternative! It is also recommended to play with a controller which is something to note if you're on PC, but I have not tried mouse/keyboard myself yet so it may be fine.

If you like helping gather canon knowledge, we're also trying to fill out the Wiki still so there's a lot of help we need! The game has a Discord linked in its menu where there's a channel for collaborating on this and other rad discussions going on.

Please talk to me about this game. I am so normal about it. (I am NOT normal about it at all.)

A friend enthusiastically recommended this game to me recently, so it caught my attention when I saw you prompting it on [community profile] threesentenceficathon, and I was delighted to find this post when I checked out your journal! The 'she and her clones are the only survivors' sounds like such an interesting premise. I'll have to give this a try.

I enjoyed taking a look through your journal; I'd like to subscribe, if you'd be up for that!

SECONDING after playing it based on your rec. it has many cool sci-fi things I enjoy (without being spoily and specific). and I never think 'walking simulator' is a bad thing in and of itself, as long as it's visually interesting and the narrative is strong (which this is).

Oooh this looks really good! I like the visual style as well. I'll have to check it out when I get a chance. (Very interested in the non-corporeal memory eating aliens >__>)

Oh damn, this sounds REALLY fun. I prefer my games with a ton of story, so this sounds perfect!

Thanks for the heads up on the motion sickness; I recently remembered to grab Dramamine to see if it helps with gaming.
